Show Secretary Tammy Smith wrote the following report on the 2018 Show.

The 169th Ripley and District Agricultural and Horticultural Show took place in fine weather on Sunday 12th August 2018. Despite the gloomy weather forecast and early morning rain, the sun came out just as the first horses and ponies trotted up for the riding classes at 8.30 am.

We had a very successful show with over 1800 entries which is on a par with previous years. Stand out classes were the Heavy Horses, the Fancy Dress (with one Mum expertly catching her daughter as the pony tried to eject her) and an excellent display of Vintage Tractors, Vintage Machines and Classic Cars. There was a good turnout for the Sheep entries and those who visited the far side of the lake to see the sheep and pigs also enjoyed the legendary Sheep Show courtesy of Stuart Barnes.

Meanwhile in the Main Ring we were entertained by the fantastic Jez Avery Stunt Show, together with the brilliant terrier racing and hound and beagle parades.

There were many trade stands to visit and we also had a special stand for our chosen charity which this year is Headway Harrogate and District which helps to support and improve life for those in the area affected by a brain injury.

Thank you to all of our judges, members, life members, advertisers and sponsors and a huge thank you to the many, many stewards, volunteers and helpers. Special thanks go to our new Chairman, Mr Andrew Walmsley, our new Trade Stand Secretary, Michael Gulwell and to Sir Thomas and Lady Emma Ingilby.

Our next event is the Ripley Show Dinner which takes place on Friday 1st February 2019 at The Pavillions, Harrogate.

Our 2019 Show takes place on Sunday 11th August – get the date in your diary!
